Confronted by the Road to Jericho Do you believe personal conscience plays a role in openness to the other? What caused the Good Samaritan (in biblical times, Samaritans were detested more than pagans) to be "moved with compassion at the sight"? Do you think the Good Samaritan would have been capable of his connectivity with the "man fell victim" if his heart was hardened to innocent human life? Just how is conscience connected to heart in a person? Can a man or woman be merciful to another if he or she has a hardened heart? Understanding this fullness of the personal connectivity to God—built into all of us at conception—can help heal the Pro-Life Movement, those opposed to the Pro-Life Movement, and the apathetic. Our focus is directed to the Road to Jericho, where guided by the precious words of Jesus Christ in parable as recorded by the Apostle Luke (10:30-37), we are taught about openness to the other. We cannot convert to a life-focused culture without first understanding our starting point. Openness to the other is embedded in each and every embryo at conception as part of our restlessness in yearning for God. Openness to the other is as natural as life itself. Openness to the other leads to communion which includes continuing to learn about and weave into the relationship a continued faith walk. The resulting communio (a fullness of communion and fellowship) has a richness of relationship development which includes an active interest that generates security and trust. We are confronted by the Road to Jericho as we examine what we face in order to move the culture of Maryland to an innocent human life focus. Please consider the damage to communion with the other caused by arrogance in hierarchy, business disconnected from conscience, self-focus to the point of distraction from genuine human need, self-interest closing the doorway to conscience, and selfishness transforming wants to needs. Please also consider the damaging effects of negative expectation of the other for personal gain, broken commitments driven by jealously, organized exclusionary behavior that generates unnecessary angst and/or anger, fraternalism that arbitrarily and/or unjustly excludes, and statesmanship morphing into partisanship by a focus on personal affirmation rather than service to the people. Are you interested in helping us move our culture to an innocent life focus sooner than later? Beginning in January 2005, and during the entire legislative session, we can use all the willing help available to us to assist with an organized team approach to protect innocent human life. After an office break-in in Bowie, we have moved our offices to Annapolis, and are staging the most active campaign for innocent human life since the early 90ties. But we need your help. Please visit our website at www.prolifemaryland.org and bless us with your time and energy, talent, and/or resources. Sign up for Life Reflections™ to keep abreast of our efforts and/or give a donation online. The status quo in Maryland can be so no longer. Innocent human life continues to be snuffed out. With your help, and with our pro-life friends and legislators, we will win and move the culture in Maryland to an innocent life focus. Prayer of the Faithful
