"Who Controls Life?" Us or HIM?, a respect life conference organized by the Diocese of Arlington's Family Life Office, will be hosted at St. Leo the Great Parish, Fairfax, VA, on Saturday, Oct. 22. The conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the school gym. A $15 registration fee includes breakfast and resource materials. Guest speakers Kate Adamson and Richard Doerflinger will present a dynamic testimony of recovery from paralysis, and speak about the problems and promise of stem-cell research, respectively. On Saturday, Oct. 22, 11 a.m., the Democrats for Life of Maryland general meeting will be held at Rising Sun Baptist Church, 2211 Saint Luke's Lane, Woodlawn, MD. The meeting will include an address by Deputy Majority Whip Emmett Burns, Jr. of the Maryland House of Delegates, and lunch. Free admission. A Culture of Life Communion Breakfast will be held Sunday, Oct. 23, to benefit the Gabriel Project, an interdenominational church-based outreach to women facing crisis pregnancies. Pro-life workshop, conference, convention

On Friday, Oct. 28, the Maryland Legislative Black Caucus will sponsor a workshop titled “The Impact of Ethics on Maryland’s Public Policy.” The workshop will be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Margaret C. Schweinhart Hearing Room of the Miller Senate Building, Annapolis. Topics will include embryonic stem cell research, cloning, end-of-life decision making, and abortion. The keynote address will be given by Dr. Claude Allen, currently the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy, advising President Bush on all non-economic domestic issues. A conference titled “The Gospel of Life and the Theology of the Body: John Paul II as Interpreter of the Second Vatican Council” will take place at Catholic University of America's Pryzbyla Center 7-9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11, and 9-5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12. volunteer, support pregnancy centers

Interested in volunteering your time to help support women choose life? The Northwest Center will be holding a volunteer training for those interested in becoming pregnancy help counselors and supporting pro-life work within the community, on Saturday, Nov. 12, and Saturday, Dec. 3, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at The Catholic University of America's campus ministry office.
