1. By Finding the Common Good in the Adverse Political Situations that Touch the Innocent and Connecting it to the Unconditional Love and Mercy of the Road-to-Jericho Continuum.
2. By Providing the Leadership to Unite and Convene the Pro-Life Movement and All People of Goodwill with the Underlying Authority that comes from Becoming a Reliable Expert on Voting Issues Demanding Proportional Reasoning & Related to Protect and Save Innocent Human Life.
3. By Developing Lines of Strategic Thinking, Communications Techniques, and Related Methods, that Direct and Lead Self-Interest Groups onto the Road-to-Jericho Continuum.
Target: The Rights-over-Life Choice
Desired Result: begin to break the tight link of conditional love, economics, and the abstracted “greater good”.
Even an atheist will admit to having a conscience...an inner-voice that directs choices, causes action or inaction, and speaks for the heart. As evidenced by world-renowned, historical figures like Sigmund Freud, atheists will acknowledge their desire to seek the “common good” for all human beings. Why is this important? In the absence of a belief in God, the common good is what unites all men and women of good will. Without belief in God, an immortal soul, resurrection, and life after death, the atheist will press toward the common good and the “natural law” moral order of things. Starting here and reaching out to Christians, Jews, Mormons, Muslims, Buddhists, atheists, and others, we tap into our commonness and progress through all the touchpoints of men and women of good will.
Moving along a continuum from the Common Good to The Innocent, there are numerous “touch-points”...numerous ways to touch people where they are, not where we would like for them to be. We will build trust and friendship. We will educate. We will evangelize. We will stimulate and be a catalyst to the personal conversion on a co-journey from the common good to the innocent, through the heart, and by the open conscience. Every human scenario has common good embedded in it. We will find it, define it, draw people to it. We will seek it out...goodness to others...the common good. We will begin our communion—on behalf of innocent life—with the common good of pro-active compassion, friendship, and mercy.
In the biblical story of the Good Samaritan—in the words of Jesus Christ as recorded by Luke 10:30-35—men of faith walked by a man who had been attacked by robbers and left to die. As Jesus stated, a priest and a second/subordinate order of clergy (Levite) on the road to Jericho passed by the man, but both turned away. It was only the Samaritan (a man detested more than pagans--source: Dictionary of the Bible, John L. McKenzie, S.J.,1965) that stopped, was moved to compassion, and reached out to help. Not only did the Samaritan use his own resources, but he enlisted another (the innkeeper) to care for the man until he regained his health. The Samaritan was “on the road” to being merciful to his “neighbor” (the innocent--someone harming no one; someone with the same right to life as anyone; someone “useless” at the time; someone in need of mercy and help to be “fully functioning and fully alive”; someone robbed, stripped, and beaten; someone helpless and therefore completely and utterly innocent) by protecting and helping him, when the involved believers of the time would not. This, therefore, is our common bond...the common good which is intrinsically tied to all our neighbors and all of the innocent.
Target: Pro-Life Movement
Desired Result: begin to break the tight link—inside the Pro-Life Movement—of conditional love, conscience, and hardened hearts.
When the movement (and those of goodwill attracted to the movement through the common good) fully understands the issue of proportional reasoning applied to the act of voting as relates to conscience—which is fundamentally abstracted from the morality of the person acting in the world without other human representation—it will begin to heal itself, as it finds room inside of conscience to justify its political choices to default, in all scenarios and circumstances, to saving and protecting innocent life.
The widely accepted Just War Theory is just that, a systematic and acceptable approach for developing adequate consensus for a nation(s) going to war with justification for the ensuing and inevitable dead—including the innocents—providing certain conditions are met. As a current example in the Catholic world, John Paul II opposed the war in Iraq; however, he has not condemned it, to the extent of this author’s knowledge. Given this lack of condemnation, the Pope’s opposition is not binding on the consciences of Catholics. Therefore, justifying a vote for a politician that consistently and persistently puts aside protecting innocent life for any right for the “fully functioning, fully alive” person by comparing the war in Iraq with this death knell position against the innocent, is fundamentally flawed in its Christian logic.
PLM must develop and grow a healing energy field based on academic discipline in moral proportional reasoning and other matters of conscience as they directly relate to the current issues and the abstracted act of voting.
Target: Self-Interest Groups
Desired Result: begin to break the tight link of conditional love, self-interest, self-focus, and selfishness.
God gifted free will to man and woman. As relates to innocent life, PLM's challenge is to lead men and women—overcome by self-interest, self-focus and selfishness—to a path that meanders its way to the Road-to-Jericho Continuum. PLM will meet this challenge squarely and exactly where it is. Beginning each self-interest group challenge with an openness to the other and a willingness to learn about the group's interest at the personal level, PLM will attach itself to the common good and begin the meandering co-journey through conscience, softening of the heart and onto protecting innocent human life. PLM will continuously labor to persuade—inside the common good—those we evangelize in this way to begin to exchange and/or sacrifice a bit of their self-interest in order to protect and save some of the innocent. In other words, self-interest agenda includes protecting innocent human life. |
